JAKARTA - A high-speed train accident in Guizhou Province, southwest China, on Saturday afternoon killed a driver.

As reported by Antara, the high-speed train accident that occurred at Rongjiang Station at 10.30 local time (09.30 western Indonesia time) also injured eight other people, according to China State Railways Group Co Ltd.

Two train carriages numbered D-2809 from Guiyang, Guizhou Province, to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, were hit by mud and rocks as they were about to enter Rongjiang Station and left the tracks.

China State Railways said one of the injured was a train crew member, while the other seven were passengers. Meanwhile, 136 survivors have been evacuated.

The accident caused the disruption of other high-speed trains in the vicinity of the incident site. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
