Prabowo Reveals Criteria For Presidential Candidates From Gerindra, Doesn't Have To Be Him

JAKARTA - The general chairman of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto, said that he already has criteria for a presidential candidate for Indonesia in 2024. One of the criteria must be to be loyal to Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.

"The point is, I think we must have someone who is truly committed and loyal to Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution in its entirety. Not as a mantra, but in its entirety. I think that is the most important criterion," Prabowo told reporters, Wednesday, June 1 .

From these several criteria, Prabowo emphasized that the presidential candidate would be an experienced figure. So, they can be good leaders for all Indonesian people.

The Minister of Defense even said that it would not be a problem if he was not the one who would later become a presidential candidate. "Yes, it doesn't have to be Prabowo. Anyone," he said.

Apart from that, Prabowo hopes that there will be a young figure who dares to volunteer as a leader.

"We want the young people who were earlier to have the courage to offer themselves to serve the country and nation," said Prabowo.

Prabowo has so far run in three presidential elections. In 2009 he ran as a vice presidential candidate for Megawati Soekarno Putri. Then in 2015 and 2019 he ran as a presidential candidate but lost to Joko Widodo.
