JAKARTA - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) destroyed 20,000 marijuana stalks planted on an area of five hectares in Gayo Lues Regency, Aceh Province.
Director of Narcotics Deputy for Eradication of BNN, Brigadier General Roy Hardi Siahaan, in a written statement received in Banda Aceh, Wednesday, said the destruction of marijuana fields was part of efforts to eradicate trafficking, narcotics abuse and illegal drugs.
"The five hectares of marijuana fields were found on Monday (May 23). While the destruction was carried out on Tuesday (May 31). The marijuana fields were located at an altitude of 1,660 meters to 1,715 meters, he said.
The marijuana field is located in the Leuser Mountains Protected Forest area, in the Agusen Village area, Blangkejeren District, Gayo Lues Regency. The distance to the fields is about six hours on foot.
The destruction of the marijuana fields involved 143 joint personnel from the National Narcotics Agency, the National Police, the TNI, and the Satpol PP of Gayo Lues Regency. Extermination is done by pulling out the cannabis plant and then burning it.
He said the discovery of marijuana fields was in collaboration with the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
