Don't Pollute The River If You Don't Want To Face The Law

BEKASI - The Bekasi Regency Government, West Java, has threatened criminal acts of individuals and companies who intentionally pollute water by dumping the remaining production waste into the river.

The acting regent of Bekasi, Dani Ramdan, gave an ultimatum to waste disposal companies to be more careful in managing liquid waste, so as not to harm local residents.

"Hopefully, with my visit, factory managers now have to be careful. Because they will face us, the government," he said while visiting the Sadang River in Wanasari Village, Cibitung District, Bekasi Regency, Wednesday, May 1.

He said this visit was a follow-up to complaints from residents who stated that the watercolor of the Sadang River had changed to reddish color due to the alleged contamination of factory waste.

According to him, the perpetrators of river pollution can be subject to a criminal offense article, because they have committed acts that violate the provisions of the law and were carried out on purpose.

"This pollution clearly violates public order, it can even have a wider impact. We must be firm against these violators," he said.

Dani admitted that he had instructed the Bekasi Regency Environmental Service to investigate the alleged contamination of the Sadang River.

"The waste disposal is currently still under investigation, it is suspected that someone or a company disposed of this waste to the factory carrying tanks," he said.

He also instructed the relevant regional apparatus to increase the supervision of companies located around the river.

"That's what makes water like this, of course, there must be preventive steps so that it doesn't happen again. I have instructed the Environmental Service to increase surveillance here by patrols or routine visits or using tools such as CCTV surveillance cameras or whatever," he said.

In particular, Dani asked the surrounding community to help him carry out surveillance, considering the limitations of carrying out routine monitoring tasks.

"Secondly, I ask for help from the surrounding community, because they are the ones who are most affected here. So, if there are suspicious indications, immediately report it to us so that they can be arrested immediately. Because if they are caught, the process can be faster. But, without knowing the source, this will take a long time," he said.
