Defendant For Kicking Offerings On Mount Semeru Sentenced To 10 Months In Prison

LUMAJANG - Hadfana Firdaus, the defendant in the case of kicking an offering at the location of the hot clouds falling from Mount Semeru, was sentenced to 10 months in prison by the panel of judges.

The defendant wore a white shirt with a green vest while attending the online trial of the Class II-B Lumajang Penitentiary and Chairman of the panel of judges Bayu Prayitno reading out the verdict the defendant was sentenced to 10 months in prison and fined Rp.

"The defendant was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a fine of Rp. 10 million, subsidiary to 2 months in prison and a reduced term of detention," said presiding judge Bayu Prayitno during the trial at the Lumajang District Court, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 31.

Meanwhile, the Head of General Crimes at the Lumajang District Attorney's Office, Mirzantio Erdinanda, said that the verdict handed down by the judge was higher than the demands of the public prosecutor (JPU), namely 7 months in prison and a fine of Rp. 50 million.

"Therefore, the Public Prosecutor is still thinking about it and asked for seven days for the sentence handed down by the defendant," he said.

The Public Prosecutor of the Lumajang Prosecutor's Office, he continued, is still thinking about it and will consult with the leadership regarding the results of the decision because there are differences.

"The verdict handed down is heavier than the prosecutor's consideration because in general the considerations are the same as the prosecutor's. Maybe the panel of judges has special considerations to make a decision that is different from the prosecutor's," he said.

After reading the verdict, the judge told the defendant whether to accept the verdict or to appeal, then the defendant answered the judge's question that he accepted the verdict.

"I accept the judge's verdict," said Hadfana Firdaus briefly.

Previously, it was viral on social media about the defendant kicking an offering at the location of the Mount Semeru eruption in early January 2022 and finally the police managed to arrest him in Banguntapan District, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, in mid-January 2022.
