JAKARTA - Part of the roof of the Jakarta Formula E spectator stands collapsed due to heavy rains accompanied by strong winds that hit the circuit location in the Ancol area, North Jakarta on Friday, May 27 evening.

In response to this, the chairman of the PSI faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Anggara Wicitra Sastroamidjojo, asked that this incident be a serious concern for the organizers and the organizing committee of the race. Given, the implementation of the race lasts six days, namely June 4, 2022.

"The committee must immediately clean up, the time is very tight, we hope the committee can ensure that on the day of implementation there will be no similar incident because it will sacrifice the safety of the people there," Anggara said in his statement, Sunday, May 29.

Anggara hopes that the committee can prevent similar incidents from happening again. Because, he continued, the construction of the permanent circuit was only completed in three months.

"We have to make sure that everything is ideal for the day of implementation from all sides. Apart from safety issues, international prestige must be maintained. But of course, even though the activities have been carried out, all of this will have to be accounted for later because considering that there is APBD money used in financing its activities," he explained.

As is known, the roof of the Jakarta Formula E spectator stands collapsed ahead of the one-week electric car racing event that was held at the Ancol Circuit, North Jakarta.

The photo of the collapsed roof of the audience at the Jakarta Formula E Circuit was circulating on social media which was uploaded by a citizen. From the photo, the white skeleton and roof collapsed covering the yellow and red chairs.

The head of the Jakarta Formula E Executive Committee, Ahmad Sahroni, said that the roof of the Grandstand category spectator stands on Friday, May 27, was caused by heavy rains that flushed the capital city.

"The storm last night (Friday, May 27)," Sahroni told reporters via text message, Saturday, May 28.

Sahroni explained that there was only one roof that collapsed for the audience stage category for the Grandstand category. Currently, he continued, officers were repairing the collapsed roof. "It's being raised again. It's safe," he added.
