Indonesia-Ecuador Agree On Drug Eradication Cooperation

JAKARTA - The Head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Komjen Police Petrus R. Golose and the Minister of Home Affairs of Ecuador Patricio Carrillo signed a bilateral agreement document (letter of intent / LoI) to work together to prevent and combat illicit drug trafficking.

The agreement became the basis for the two countries to build cooperation in drug eradication, information exchange cooperation, and other cooperation deemed necessary, the Indonesian Embassy in Quito said in a written statement, quoted by Antara, Saturday, May 28.

The agreement was signed on May 25, 2022, at the Ecuadorian Police Headquarters in Quito after a meeting between the two officials which was also attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to Ecuador Agung Kurniadi, Deputy Interior Minister of Ecuador Sandra Molina Barreiro, and the Head of the National Police of Ecuador Komjen Fausto Salinas.

"Cooperation in eradicating drugs adds ammunition to the Indonesian Embassy's efforts to expand and deepen the scope of the dimensions of bilateral cooperation," said Agung.

In the meeting which according to the Indonesian Embassy took place in a productive and open manner, the Head of the National Narcotics Agency and the Minister of Home Affairs of Ecuador agreed that the problem of drug trafficking has become a global challenge, so that concrete cooperation can provide great benefits for both countries.

The two of them also exchanged views on the potential and efforts that the two institutions could take to strengthen cooperation in handling illicit narcotics trafficking to a higher level.

At the end of the meeting, Petrus handed over a BNN jacket bearing the words "War on Drugs" to his partner from Ecuador.

Minister Carrillo and Chief of Police Salinas then took off their coats and service uniforms and put on BNN jackets while posing.
