664 Drug Users In DIY Access Rehabilitation Services In January-March 2022

DIY - A total of 664 narcotics and illegal drug users in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) accessed rehabilitation services during the first quarter or January to March 2022.

"As many as 664 people have access to the services of BNN partners and BNN clinics in DIY," said the Coordinator for the Rehabilitation of the BNN DIY, Windy Elfasari in Yogyakarta, Friday, May 27.

He said that of the 664 people, 557 drug users accessed rehabilitation services belonging to BNN partners, with the highest number in Yogyakarta City, and 87 others at BNN clinics in Yogyakarta.

Windy assessed that the trend of addicts who want to report themselves and access rehabilitation services in DIY is still the same as the average period of the previous year. "There has been no improvement," he said.

According to him, there has not been an increase in awareness of mandatory reporting and the number of access to rehabilitation, among others, due to the lack of information on users and the low level of family care.

"Maybe there are families who don't know, so we hope they are more 'aware' (cares)," he said, as reported by Antara.

Therefore, BNN DIY together with BNN in districts/cities are currently intensifying community-based intervention (IBM) programs in each village to help raise awareness among families and drug users in their respective neighborhoods for treatment.

According to him, many drug users and addicts think that the initiative to report and access rehabilitation will lead to legal proceedings.

In fact, said Windy, apart from being free, Law (UU) Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics has guaranteed that narcotics users undergoing rehabilitation are guaranteed to be free from legal entanglements.

"If he reports himself for the rehabilitation process, we will rehabilitate him, not for arrest data. We also guarantee his confidentiality," he said.

He said the prevalence of drug users in DIY, referring to research conducted by BNN periodically in 2019, reached 2.30 percent or as many as 18,082 people from the total population.
