SUKABUMI - Officers who were on standby at the Sukabumi Police Security Post, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, acted decisively by turning back two pickup trucks carrying cattle that were about to enter Sukabumi Regency because they were not equipped with an animal health certificate (SKKH).

"We are taking this decisive action to anticipate the spread of mouth and nail disease in ruminant livestock in the Sukabumi area," said the Head of the Sukalarang Police, AKP Asep Jaenal Abidin, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 24.

According to him, until now personnel have several times detained and turned back livestock transporting vehicles from outside Sukabumi when crossing the border lanes of Sukabumi Regency and Cianjur Regency, precisely in Sukalarang District.

As in the recently discovered case, the modus operandi was to send three bulls from Bogor Regency at night to avoid being questioned by joint officers at the Sukalarang Police Post.

However, the attempted delivery of three bulls without an SKKH from the relevant agency from that area was thwarted and the two pickup trucks were banned from entering Sukabumi Regency and directed back to their area.

"It is suspected that the driver intentionally sent cows from Bogor Regency via the Puncak Cianjur route to avoid being checked by officers. However, the attempt failed because we alerted personnel at the 24-hour pospam," he added.

He said that although the results of the examination of the three cows did not reveal any signs of mouth and hoof disease, the police did not want to take the risk because the cattle were not equipped with SKKH.
