Smuggling Of Methamphetamine In Shampoo Bottles Foiled By Kendari Prison Officers

KENDARI - Class IIA Penitentiary (Lapas) Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, foiled an attempt to smuggle suspected shabu with the mode of storing it in shampoo bottles.

Head of Kendari Class IIA Prison Abdul Samad Dama said evidence of suspected methamphetamine was thwarted from a general inmate while passing through the main gate guard post (P2U).

"It happened on Saturday, May 21 in the afternoon. This prisoner is a general prisoner, he usually cleans the office area. When he is about to enter the block he will pass through P2U before the x-tray machine, so our officers saw that he had a bag of luggage. So this is called a prisoner," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 24.

The guard at the prison's main door then checked the prisoners' belongings by unpacking the contents of the shampoo that was poured into a plate.

After it was dismantled, Samad continued, it turned out that the shampoo bottle contained seven small pipettes in which there were small sachets containing crystal granules suspected of being methamphetamine.

"We asked where he got it? He admitted that it was sent from his aunt, so now we are still investigating, including at the receipt of the goods, we are checking whether he has received goods deposited or not or used it on behalf of someone else," said Samad.

He said that his party is currently investigating where the goods were obtained and the sender.

"So we trace where, especially the officers, have they received goods and so on, it doesn't mean that because they are not involved, we have to trace where these goods come in," he said.
