JAKARTA – The formation of the United Indonesia Coalition (KIB) by the Golkar Party, PAN and PPP, is not an obstacle or obstacle for President Joko Widodo's government. The same goes for ministers who happen to be party leaders from the coalition.

"This coalition's mission is to succeed and continue the development carried out by Pak Jokowi. So it is actually a strengthening of the coalition that already exists in the current government," said Indo Barometer Executive Director Muhammad Qodari as quoted from a written statement, Friday, May 20.

According to Qodari, it is very unfortunate if someone creates a dichotomy between the work of ministers and their political work.

"For me, it's in line. So the political performance of a political figure who becomes a minister is precisely the electoral incentive if he can work optimally as part of the government. In fact, if he does not perform optimally as a minister, it will reduce his political incentives," said Qodari.

For Qodari, ministerial performance and political performance are not contradictory but can be synergistic and mutually reinforcing. Because the better the performance of the government, the better their electoral incentives will be.

"Because the electoral incentives must be high, the performance must also be good," continued Qodari.

Regarding various negative responses about the formation of this coalition from several other parties, Qodari saw that KIB was indeed very strategic. This is because several other parties, according to him, are still having difficulty forming coalitions.

"I see that until now, PDIP is still difficult to talk about the 2024 coalition. Because currently there are only a few parties, for example six parties. Of the six, it seems difficult for two parties to form a coalition with the PDIP, for example PKS and the Democratic Party," said Qodari.

According to Qodari, the remaining alternatives are PKB, Gerindra Party and NasDem Party.

"But I don't think NasDem can because of the complex relationship with PDIP to this day," said Qodari

What made it possible for the party led by Megawati Soekarnoputri was PKB. The reason is that it is traditional and on a social basis the most likely to be invited to a coalition.

"But PKB is usually the last minute or can't be rushed when talking about coalitions," said Qodari.

For Qodari, the most likely thing is Gerindra. However, it is still doubtful whether the party led by Prabowo Subianto will immediately lock up a coalition with the current PDIP.

“However, this is not impossible, given the close relationship between Mrs. Megawati and Mr. Prabowo. So to this day the coalition that might be formed is PDIP and Gerindra," said Qodari.

However, when it comes to official coalitions, Qodari believes that PDIP should also involve Islamic parties. Here is a dilemma, because PAN and PPP have already formed a coalition with Golkar.

Meanwhile with MCC looks very difficult. So what is open to PDIP is PKB.

"I think it is difficult for PDIP to form a coalition today," said Qodari.
