MUI Talks Again About LBGT, Says It's A Disorder That Must Be Cured

JAKARTA - Anomalies in sexual orientation returned to the scene after Deddy Corbuzier invited one of his gay partners to his podcast channel. MUI said that sexual disorders must be cured.

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) itself has issued Fatwa Number 57 of 2014 concerning Lesbians, Gays, Sodomy and Obscenity.

The fatwa was signed by the Chairman of the MUI Fatwa Commission, Prof. Dr. Hasanuddin AF and the Secretary of the Fatwa Commission KH Asrorun Niam Sholeh.

In the fatwa it is explained that sexual orientation towards the same sex is a disorder that must be cured. In addition, same-sex sexual orientation is also emphasized as a form of deviation that must be straightened out.

"Homosexuality, both lesbian and gay, is unlawful, and is a form of crime (jarimah)," said the fatwa, quoted from the official MUI website, Friday, May 20.

In addition, homosexuals, whether lesbian, gay, and bisexual, are subject to hadd and ayau ta'zir punishments by the authorities.

In the fatwa it is explained that Hadd is a type of punishment for criminal acts whose form and level have been determined by the texts.

While Ta'zir, is a type of punishment for criminal acts whose form and level are left to the ulil amri or the party authorized to determine the punishment.

For the victims of these crimes, the perpetrators should be given a heavier sentence up to the death penalty.

Furthermore, the fatwa emphasizes that legalizing same-sex sexual activity and other deviant sexual orientations is haram.

The fatwa provides recommendations to deal with it.

First, asking the House of Representatives or the DPR and the government to immediately draw up laws and regulations not to legalize the existence of the homosexual community, both lesbi and gay, as well as other communities with deviant sexual orientations.

"Severe punishments for perpetrators of sodomy, lesbi, gay, and other deviant sexual activities that can serve as zawazir and mawani," said the fatwa.

Explained in the fatwa, the meaning of zawazir and mawani is to make the perpetrators a deterrent. In addition, people who have not done it become afraid to do it.

The DPR and the government are expected to include this deviant sexual activity as a general offense and a crime that tarnishes human dignity.

"Preventing the development of deviant sexual activity in the community through socialization and rehabilitation," said the fatwa.

Second, the fatwa also recommends asking the government to obligely prevent the spread of sexual orientation deviations in society by providing rehabilitation services for perpetrators.

"Accompanied by strict and firm law enforcement," continued the second point of the recommendation in the fatwa.

Third, MUI asks the government strictly not to recognize same-sex marriage.

Finally, in the fourth point, the government and society are asked not to allow the existence of homosexual activities, and this deviant sexual orientation to live and thrive in society.

The fatwa which has been in effect since December 31, 2014 appeals to Muslims to be able to disseminate and know this fatwa.

"So that every Muslim and parties who need to know about it, urge all parties to disseminate this fatwa," the conclusion of the fatwa.
