Allegedly Short Circuit Of Electricity, One House Burned On Fire On Ambon Island

AMBON - An empty house unit, Wednesday morning, at around 01:05 eastern Indonesia time in Bentang Village, Nusaniwe District, Ambon Island City, and PP Lease, caught fire due to an electrical short circuit in the ceiling of the house.

"The house, which is located in the Benteng Village, belongs to the family of Berthy Diasz (59) who is currently in Jakarta," said Head of Public Relations of the Ambon Island Police and PP Lease 2nd Insp. Moyo Utomo in Ambon, Wednesday 18 May.

According to witness Murty (42), at first, she saw sparks and small flames coming out of the roof of the victim's house.

"At that time the witness was standing in front of his food stall which is about 20 meters from the victim's house and saw sparks and flames at around 01:05 eastern Indonesia time," said Murty, quoted by Antara.

After that, the witness immediately approached the house and tried to call local residents to inform them of the incident.

The police received testimony from another witness named Milto Erwawan (22) that he had smelled smoke from a scorched cable and rushed to find the source of the smell.

"After the witness arrived in front of Murty's food stall, he looked at the house belonging to the Berty Diasz family and saw flames on the roof and immediately asked for help from a number of youths at the motorcycle taxi base," explained Moyo Utomo.

At 01:11 eastern Indonesia time, four units of the Ambon City firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire, while the Nusaniwe Police, the Ambon Island Police, and PP Lease secured the scene and there were no casualties in the accident.
