JAKARTA - Commission II of the DPR RI, the government, and the General Elections Commission (KPU) have agreed on a 2024 election budget of IDR 76 trillion. This agreement was taken in a consignment meeting on Friday, May 13.

"It was agreed that the total (the 2024 election budget, ed) was IDR 76,656,312,294,000," said Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI, Junimart Girsang, when contacted by reporters, Monday, May 16.

Junimart said the 2024 election budget that had been agreed upon was in accordance with the KPU's proposal.

The KPU's proposal is in accordance with the stages each year, which is IDR 8.06 trillion in 2022, in 2023 it is IDR 23.86 trillion, and in 2024 it is IDR 44.73 trillion.

Adding Junimart's statement, member of Commission II DPR RI Rifqinizami Karsayuda said that although the budget amount had been agreed upon, the results were not yet binding.

The DPR, continued Rifqinizami, still needs to hold a hearing (RDP) with the Minister of Home Affairs, KPU, and Bawaslu to ratify the decision.

According to him, this consignment meeting is only a semi-formal agenda held to find a common solution regarding the discussion of the 2024 General Election which has been deadlocked several times.

"The non-binding consignment is a canalization of the deadlock all this time. It will be tied up according to the RDP Rules," he said.

As previously reported, the General Elections Commission (KPU) held a meeting for further consultations (consignment) with the DPR last week.

This meeting was held in the middle of a recess and was held behind closed doors. In the consignment, two important things were discussed, mainly regarding the stages and budget for the 2024 General Election.
