Industrial Cluster Pushes Karawang To COVID-19 Red Zone

JAKARTA - The Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 in Karawang Regency, West Java, stated that the high transmission of COVID-19 in the industrial cluster pushed Karawang back into the red zone on the risk map of transmission.

"Previously, Karawang was in an orange zone, but now it has a red zone status due to the increasing number of positive cases of COVID-19," said Karawang Fitra Hergyana, spokesman for the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19 in Karawang, as reported by Antara , Wednesday, October 14.

He said that the main factor causing the Karawang area to re-enter the red zone was the high spread of the corona virus in industrial clusters. Therefore, he emphasized the importance of industry players to be more disciplined in implementing health protocols.

He also again appealed to all residents to comply with the COVID-19 prevention protocol because some residents are now starting to ignore it.

"For example, at the beginning there was corona, everyone was keeping their distance. But now, at some points in urban areas many hang out. They don't wear masks," he said.

Head of the Disease Control and Environmental Health Division of the Karawang Health Service, Yayuk Sri Rahayu, said that the cluster of COVID-19 transmission in the industrial sector includes 86 companies.

"Positive cases of COVID-19 in Karawang are quite high. The biggest contributor is from quite a lot of industrial clusters," he said.

According to data from the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling of COVID-19 in Karawang, as of Tuesday, October 13, the accumulative number of COVID-19 patients in Karawang was 963 people with details of 743 people having recovered, 35 people died, and 185 people were still being treated.
