Madiun City DKPP Finds Three Cows Suspected Of PMK

MADIUN - Officials from the Food and Agriculture Security Service (DKPP) of Madiun City, East Java, found three cows in the area suspected of or suspected of being infected with mouth and nail disease (PMK).

"To ensure exposure to PMK or not, officers have taken samples for further examination in the laboratory," said Sub-Coordinator of Livestock and Animal Health DKPP Madiun, drh. Margareta Dian was reported by Antara, Thursday, May 12.

According to him, the three suspected PMK cows were found by officers during an inspection at the farm house located on Jalan Kapri and Jalan Sidomakmur, Kartoharjo District, Madiun City.

When examined by officers, the three cows showed symptoms of PMK, such as fever, excessive mucus coming out of the mouth, and wounds.

"For the time being, we ask to be quarantined so that it doesn't spread to other cows. Meanwhile, the results of the laboratory checks will be out in the next 1-2 days," he said.

If the result is positive, the quarantine process will continue. In addition, it is also supported by additional vitamins and nutrients to increase the body's resistance so that it heals quickly.

Margareta revealed that the mortality rate of livestock infected with FMD so far is quite low. However, the transmission rate is very high. In fact, as much as 90 percent to 100 percent can be transmitted to other four-legged farm animals, such as buffalo, goats, sheep, and pigs.

He asked the public not to panic about the outbreak of FMD in four-legged farm animals, because FMD is not contagious to humans.

If there are cows or goats that have just arrived from other areas, they must be quarantined first, do not mix them with other livestock. Then the cattle were sprayed with disinfectant to kill the virus.

"This is to break the chain of transmission. In addition, the cleanliness of the cage is also important," he said.

His party will regularly deploy a team of veterinarians to monitor livestock in the Madiun City area. If there are cows or goats suspected of being infected with FMD, it can be anticipated and prevented from spreading.
