SUKOHARJO - The Sukoharjo Police, Central Java, has prohibited motorized vehicles that have been modified to resemble open train cars or commonly known as rabbit trains from operating on roads.

"Vehicles that are modified into mini trains or rabbit trains are often found crossing the highway. This can endanger passengers and other road users," said Sukoharjo Police Chief AKBP Wahyu Nugroho Setyawan in outreach to rabbit train owners and drivers in Sukoharjo, Antara, Thursday, May 12.

According to the Head of Police, because the vehicle which was modified into a rabbit train did not comply with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

"We urge and educate the owners and drivers of rabbit trains to stop operating rabbit trains on the highway. Our Traffic Unit asks to intensify socialization to anticipate the dangers of rabbit trains that do not meet the physical and administrative standards of vehicles," said the Head of Police.

The number of vehicles modified into rabbit trains for transporting people in the Sukoharjo area is recorded at 85 units. "Essentially, if the rabbit train operates on the highway, it has the potential to violate the Road Transport Traffic Act (LLAJ).

Meanwhile, Head of the Operations Section (KBO) of the Sukoharjo Police Traffic Unit, Iptu Sri Wuri, said that his party provided advice and education to rabbit train owners and drivers to anticipate the dangers of accidents on the highway because there were no physical standards.

According to Sri Wuri, the rabbit carriage does not meet passenger safety standards because it has side covers, no roadworthiness test, does not meet the type test, no motorized vehicle number (TNKB) sign, vehicle registration certificate (STNK), driving license (SIM). ), route, and a sign of passing the vehicle towing method test.

"Rabbit trains operating on highways are dangerous because there is no guarantee of safety for passengers and other road users. There is also no insurance guarantee from Jasa Raharja in the event of a traffic accident," he said.

The Sukoharjo Police Traffic Unit, he said, did not hesitate to take action if the rabbit carriage was seen passing on the highway, for the sake of mutual safety.

The confirmation of the ban follows the incident that an Isuzu box truck which was modified into a rabbit carriage with police number H 1439 SMG rolled over and fell into a field on Jalan Andong-Nogosari, in Hamlet Tegalrejo, Sempu Village, Andong District, Boyolali Regency, Wednesday (11/5), which resulted in the death of two people.
