The Ex-Bridge IV Palu Area Proposed To Be A Historical Site Of Disaster

PALU - The Association of Indonesian Planning Experts (IAP) and the Historia Community of Central Sulawesi proposed to the Palu City Government to make the former Bridge IV area in Palu Bay a historical disaster site.

"We also call for prioritizing the ecological and sustainable arrangement of the historical triangular area of ​​the Palu City disaster," explained IAP Chairman of Central Sulawesi Wildani Pingkan Suripurna Hamzens in Palu, Wednesday, May 11.

Central Sulawesi IAP has sent a letter to the city government regarding the preservation of the former Palu IV Bridge area. IAP and Historia Sulteng requested that the bridges on the east and west sides not be destroyed or maintained.

"The plan to rebuild the Palu IV Bridge could result in the loss of the former Palu Bridge. We also hope that the surrounding environment can be managed ecologically and sustainably," he said, quoted by Antara.

The Palu IV Bridge, which is located at the mouth of the Palu River and Palu Bay, is a major historical site for the Palu City disaster. This area is considered worthy of being preserved and arranged into the center of the tsunami memorial park.

This is a magnet in the historical geotourism of the Palu city disaster along with conservation efforts for structuring the former liquefaction area in the Balaroa and Petobo areas.

"There may be information boards installed and government support is needed to encourage and prohibit people from rebuilding in the area," he explained.

According to Wildani, Palu City should be able to be organized based on the historical potential and physical carrying capacity of the city by taking into account the risks of Palu City being prone to natural disasters.

For this reason, the concept of an earth park or Palu Geopark city has been presented for a sustainable reorganization of Palu City.

"The city of Palu should be arranged as a source of earth science and built as a modern city with an atmosphere of wisdom," he said.

The natural disaster that hit Palu City and its surroundings on September 28, 2018 is part of the history of Palu City.
