DPR Asks The Government To Conduct Research And Examination Of Mysterious Hepatitis Specimens

JAKARTA - The World Health Organization (WHO) announced an Extraordinary Event (KLB) related to 228 cases of hepatitis that occurred in 20 countries on May 1, 2022. Until now, WHO and many countries are still investigating the causes and development of the mysterious hepatitis disease. Responding to the mysterious hepatitis phenomenon, especially in Indonesia, Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives asked the government to conduct research and examine specimens.

"The government must intensify research and examination of the causes of the disease before determining the next steps," said a member of Commission IX of the DPR RI Netty Prasetiyani Aher in a statement, Monday, May 9.

According to the deputy chairman of the PKS faction in the DPR, it is important to examine and research these specimens so that Indonesia does not take the wrong steps in anticipating the spread of mysterious hepatitis that has attacked many countries. He also asked the government to provide clear information to the public regarding the disease.

“Educate the public not to panic and increase vigilance. Optimize the available facilities, resources, and government equipment to provide correct and clear information to the public," she urged. 

Netty assessed that the socialization was an effort to prevent the spread of hepatitis, especially the case distribution map.

"Efforts are being made by the government and the readiness of the health system to anticipate a spike in cases so that people can actively participate in prevention," she said.

The West Java legislator also asked the government to anticipate the circulation of hoax information about hepatitis which could trigger panic in the community. For example, information on the relationship between hepatitis and the COVID-19 vaccine is quite a topic of discussion.

"Facilities and health workers must also be prepared. That is in order to prevent this mysterious hepatitis case from increasing in the country," she concluded.
