Suppressing The Spread Of Acute Hepatitis, Coordinating Minister For Human Development And Culture Muhadjir Effendy Asks For Case Tracking In The Regions

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy encourages massive efforts to track acute hepatitis with severe symptoms in every region. Through this step, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture hopes that there will be certainty about the spread of cases.

"We are not bad if we are more offensive. So, we are not waiting, but proactively conducting a rather large-scale sweep in every area to ensure that acute hepatitis has not spread everywhere," said Muhadjir Effendy when delivering a press statement quoted by Antara, Thursday 5 May.

Muhadjir said that case tracking efforts in each area are expected to provide opportunities for relevant authorities and medical personnel in efforts to prevent disease early.

Muhadjir said that information related to the mysterious disease was starting to be discussed by the public, and not even a few individuals took advantage of the situation by spreading fake news through social media channels.

"I caught on social media that there were a lot of hoax news related to vaccination for children. If it is not handled immediately, it could be counter-productive," he said.

Muhadjir believes that the Ministry of Health has swiftly taken preventive and curative measures against the symptoms of acute hepatitis.

"Acute hepatitis with severe symptoms has become a global problem because it has occurred in several developed countries," he said.

The former Minister of Education and Culture said the findings of severe acute hepatitis cases in Britain, the United States, Singapore and a number of other countries were supported by highly sophisticated instruments to detect new diseases.

"That is, it does not mean that developed countries announce this disease, but if developing countries have not made a statement, it means that it is not there," he said.

The swift response to the emergence of new diseases, said Muhadjir, shows that Indonesia can be said to be quite advanced in dealing with public health governance.
