Denpasar Police Enhance The Role Of Traditional Sipandu Ahead Of The G-20 Summit

JAKARTA - The Denpasar Police, Bali, is increasing the role of the Traditional Village-Based Integrated Environmental Protection System (Sipandu Beradat) to prevent security and social security issues ahead of the G-20 Summit.

"Increasing the role of the Sipandu Beradat forum in solving security and social security issues on the first line so that regional stability is maintained ahead of the G-20 Summit", said Denpasar Police Chief, AKBP Bambang Yugo Pamungkas, in a press release in Denpasar, Bali, quoted from Antara, Saturday, April 30.

The police chief said that one of the important components of Sipandu Beradat is Pecalang (a traditional security guard in Bali). They will be directly involved in securing the G-20, such as in the area where the summit is being held and tourist attractions.

Improving the ability of the Sipandu Beradat elements, he said, was the first step so that what were their duties and roles could be optimal in maintaining security and order. Thus, the slightest problem can be solved below.

AKBP Bambang Yugo Pamungkas said that optimizing the role of the Sipandu Beradat forum in maintaining kamtibmas (public order) as well as providing knowledge to increase the ability of Pecalang in carrying out police duties was limited.

In this case, the role of Pecalang is one of the components of the Sipandu Beradat, which also participates in carrying out the task of minimizing disturbances to public order and security.

He explained that the Sipandu Beradat forum is a form of partnership between the police and the community based on community policing, which has components, including Traditional Village Security Assistance (Bankamda), Pecalang, Community Protection (Linmas), security guards, and other security components under the guidance of Bhayangkara Community Security and Order Trustees (Bhabinkamtibmas) and Village Advisory Officer (Babinsa) at the customary village level.

Previously, capacity building activities were carried out on Tuesday, April 26 at the Pujian Valley Building, Denpasar, which was attended by approximately 50 Sipandu Beradat forums which are included in the jurisdiction of the Denpasar Police, including Kuta and South Kuta, followed in person and virtually.
