DKI Deputy Governor Asks Students Not To Participate In Demo: Study, Demo Affairs Let Adults

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, checked the condition of the demonstration participants who rejected the Job Creation Law which was secured by the police at Polda Metro Jaya. Riza regretted that the action which ended in chaos was also followed by school students.

"More than 60 percent turns out to be under 19 years of age or a student, not a student or even a laborer," said Riza at the City Hall of DKI, Central Jakarta, Friday, October 9.

Riza considers that students who take part in the demonstration do not know the substance and points of the Job Creation Act which have become a resistance to a number of people.

"For that, we ask my beloved siblings not to come along. If you don't know, you have to be careful. It will be dangerous. If there is a riot on the road, there will be crowds, fights, fights, then you will be hit by a stone, and so on, "explained Riza.

"Student brothers and sisters, I suggest studying. Let the demonstration be for those who are adults, labor and student affairs," said Riza.

The demonstration against the ratification of the Work Creation Law that was held in Jakarta, Thursday, October 8, ended in chaos. Clashes between the participants in the action and the police were unavoidable.

It was recorded that around 34 public facilities were damaged by rioters during a demonstration against the ratification of the Copyright Law. Dozens of facilities damaged include police posts and bus stops. At least, the losses due to the destruction reached IDR55 billion.

A total of 74 units of fleets and 1,100 personnel were deployed to carry out garbage transportation at locations where mass actions took place. The waste from the demonstration in Jakarta was collected by 398 tons, including debris, broken glass, and leftover food packages and drink bottles.
