Trump Kekeh Direct Campaign Even Though His Post-COVID-19 Positive Condition Is Not Clear

JAKARTA - President of the United States (US) Donald Trump insists that he will return to direct campaigning in Florida on Saturday tomorrow. He also admitted that he objected if the debates for the two US presidential candidates were conducted virtually. Even though Trump's health condition, who was only positive for COVID-19 last week, is still unclear.

On the evening of Thursday 8 October, Trump told Fox News he was feeling very good and would probably return to campaign activities, one of which is campaigning in Florida. His doctor said in a memo that Trump had completed therapy and could return to public meetings.

In fact, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines say people who are seriously ill with COVID-19 may need to stay at home for up to 20 days after symptoms first appear. The White House has not provided detailed information on the severity of Trump's disease.

They also declined to say when the last time he tested negative for the virus. While Trump is likely to return to undergo a COVID-19 test on Friday.

Virtual debate

In addition, Trump also rejected the second debate on the US Presidential Candidates which will be held on October 15 to be conducted virtually. He admitted that he was worried when speaking later the microphone could be disconnected.

Trump's decision to reject a virtual debate was launched Friday because it prevented Joe Biden's campaign team from attracting sympathy for voters ahead of election day. However, Frank Fahrenkopf, chairman of the debate commission, told the Associated Press that the switch to virtual formats was unanimous.

The debate committee said nothing about silencing the participants. But they describe the new format that is needed "to protect the health and safety of all involved."

Trump seems to be working hard to win back the sympathy of the US people. This is because the confidence of Americans according to the poll conducted by Ipsos continues to decline about how it manages the health crisis. But his disregard for health protocols actually only worsened his image.

The survey, conducted Tuesday through Thursday, noted that only 37 percent of American adults were satisfied with Trump's handling of the pandemic, while 59 percent admitted otherwise. The figure is the lowest in polls since March 2 and has continued to decline over the past 10 days.

To note, ahead of the US Election, early voting has exceeded the record. More than 6 million ballots have been distributed among communities in self-quarantine.

The electoral system was deliberately changed to avoid possible transmission of COVID-19. Because more than 210,000 people in the US have died from COVID-19.
