ACEH BESAR - The Satreskrim Polresta Banda Aceh investigated a Honda Jazz car which had been modified by a spare tank that caught fire while refueling at the Cot Iri gas station, Krueng Barona Jaya district, Aceh Besar.
"As a result of the investigation into the fire incident in the Honda Jazz, it was found that this car had a modified fuel tank," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for the Banda Aceh Police, Kompol M Ryan Citra Yudha in Banda Aceh, Antara, Tuesday, April 26.
Ryan said the incident occurred Monday, April 25 at around 22:05 while filling up the Pertalite type of fuel. Suddenly, when the officers filled the oil, there was an explosion from inside the car.
Ryan said, based on the results of the investigation and the statement from the car owner, Mukhlis Alfaidy, the incident occurred when he was filling Pertalite type of fuel into an additional tank in the car. About five minutes of walking suddenly appeared fire from the tank.
"That's when there was an explosion from inside the car, and the owner Mukhlis Alfaidy jumped out through the left door," he said.
After the fire was extinguished, the owner along with evidence and officers from the gas station on duty at that time were secured to the Banda Aceh Police for further questioning.
Ryan said that the buyers deliberately bought Pertalite fuel in large quantities which were put into additional tanks to be resold to kiosks with the intention of taking profits.
"Mukhlis Alfaidy bought Pertalite fuel from gas stations for IDR 7,650 per liter and sold it to kiosks for IDR 8,500 per liter," said Ryan.
Ryan explained that the cause of the fire was suspected to be because the car owner intentionally filled up with subsidized oil by using a modified 120 liter tank in the car.
Then, in the car were also found in the form of oil storage jerry cans with a capacity of 33 liters as many as six pieces, cash amounting to IDR 1.3 million and pertalite type fuel around 70 liters.
"After being questioned, Mukhlis Alfaidy was taken to the Bhayangkara hospital because he suffered serious burns to his right hand and left leg as a result of the incident," said Commissioner Ryan.
