BATAM - The Riau Archipelago Police (Kepri) destroyed 53 kilograms of narcotics evidence from the international network of methamphetamine from Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Chief of the Riau Islands Police, Inspector General Aris Budiman, who directly led the destruction, explained that the evidence was the result of the disclosure of the case with the Batam Customs and Excise Directorate General as of March-April.

There were three police reports and five suspects with the initials Zl, BA, BIR, ZA, and EH .

Each of the suspects had their respective duties, namely, Zl acted as a pick-up for methamphetamine from Malaysians at sea using a fast boat and headed to Sagulung Harbor, Batam.

Meanwhile, ZA, BA, and BIR acted as the delivery men for methamphetamine from Batam to Lombok by plane via Hang Nadim Airport. The suspect, EH, acted as a courier carrying methamphetamine from Batam to Tanjung Batu using a fast boat.

The arrests of the suspects were carried out in three different locations, namely: in the waters of the Barelang Bridge 1, Galang District, Batam City; door 1 x-ray inspection of the departure terminal of Batam's Hang Nadim International Airport; and the sea waters around Telan Island, Behind Padang District, Batam City.

The suspects' modus operandi was to put the crystal meth into two bags and store it on a speedboat.

In addition, the police chief said, methamphetamine was inserted into the human body through the anus to be brought to Lombok via Batam's Hang Nadim Airport. However, the attempt was detected by the departure airport x-ray officer.

"The next mode is to bring methamphetamine using a fast boat from Batam to Tanjung Batu," he said as quoted by Antara, Friday, April 22.

The destruction of the crystal methamphetamine was also attended by the Deputy Governor of Riau Islands and a number of heads of the local regional leadership communication forum (forkopimda).

The methamphetamine is destroyed with an incinerator machine that is capable of burning the dangerous compounds in the lost drug.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Marlin Agustina highly appreciates the performance of the TNI/Polri in uncovering narcotics cases in the local area.

According to him, narcotics is an enemy of the nation so it must be fought from the roots.

"I hope that all of my colleagues will always be given the power to uncover extraordinary cases," said Marlin Agustina.
