GARUT - Garut Police Chief, West Java AKBP Wirdhanto Hadicaksono stated that the investment boss who reportedly deceived a number of young women into a loss of Rp 7.1 billion finally turned himself in after almost a month of being sought by the police.

"He surrendered his status as a suspect, he came and then delivered information related to investment," said Wirdhanto during a press conference on the disclosure of fraudulent investments in Garut Regency, as reported by Antara, Friday, April 22.

He said the Garut Police had named the suspect with the initials PYM (26) who owns a beauty salon business. It was reported by a number of young women related to fraudulent investment fraud.

Garut Police, he said, based on the results of the victim's report and determined that there was a criminal act, they immediately conducted a search for the suspect who was known to have been hiding, until he finally surrendered himself.

"We have examined 15 witnesses, then we are taking steps to find the perpetrators and finally yesterday the perpetrators surrendered because we gave summons," he said.

He revealed the suspect's modus operandi in carrying out his actions by inviting a number of young women to invest, as many as 142 people were recorded as victims.

Each victim, he said, had submitted a different amount for investment, but the overall value of the investment that was embezzled by the suspect was IDR 7.1 billion.

"The investment took place from September 2020 to last March. The total loss, based on information, was 142 victims, amounting to Rp. 7 billion," he said.

The police chief said that based on the suspect's confession, the money he collected was used for his daily needs, such as banking installments, for a beauty salon business and so on.

"According to the suspect, the money was used to cover up his promise to the victims, namely digging a hole and closing a hole," he said.

As a result of his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code and 372 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of four years in prison.

He is currently languishing in a detention cell at the Garut Police Headquarters to undergo further legal examination.
