Ministry Of PUPR Targets Sepaku Semoi Dam At IKN To Be Completed In Early 2023

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets the construction of the Sepaku Semoi Dam in North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan to be completed in early 2023.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the dam, which has an inundated area of 280 hectares and a capacity of 10.6 million cubic meters, has been planned for a long time, mainly to meet the raw water needs of the City of Balikpapan.

Furthermore, with the IKN, it will be optimized to supply raw water with a capacity of 2,500 liters/second and reduce flooding by 55 percent.

"With the Sepaku Semoi Dam, the supply of raw water for IKN is still sufficient until 2030. In the future, we will also add the construction of the Batu Lepek Dam and the Selamatyu Dam, while for flood control at IKN the drainage network is currently being designed to be carried out immediately," said the Minister. The PUPR Ministry is accelerating the construction of the Sepaku Semoi Dam. This is to support the need for raw water and flood control in the National Capital Region (IKN) of the Archipelago in East Kalimantan.

Secretary General of the Ministry of PUPR Mohammad Zainal Fatah said the development of the Nusantara IKN which is a new area and civilization must of course be supported by basic infrastructure such as raw water, roads and housing.

"The construction of the Sepaku Semoi Dam will certainly be the lifeblood of IKN Nusantara," said Fatah.

He also added that the role of water is very vital for life, for that the presence of raw water supplied from the Sepaku Semoi Dam will be very beneficial for IKN Nusantara.

Currently, the construction of the Sepaku Semoi Dam has reached 45 percent. This progress includes work on preparing spillway structures, evasion structures, and dam bodies including the main caver dam.

The construction of this dam will be accelerated where the physical work is completed in early 2023 and mid-2023 is already impounding (early filling). The Sepaku Semoi dam is being worked on under a multi-year contract scheme until 2023 worth IDR556 billion with the contractor PT. Brantas Abipraya- PT Sacna- and PT. BRP (KSO).
