Inspired By A TV Series, This Same-sex Couple Mutilates Hotel Workers

JAKARTA - A lesbian couple accused of killing and mutilating a hotel worker allegedly kept the victim's head, arms, hands and feet for five days before throwing her body into the sea.

Diogo Goncalves (21) suffered a terrible death. He was sadistically dismembered after being killed.

Her body parts were in two cars including her Mercedes before the lesbian couple allegedly dumped them near a waterfall called Pego do Inferno, near the town of Algarve in Tavira, Portugal.

The gripping details of Goncalves' murder and body disposal emerged Monday last week as prosecutors prepared to try security worker Maria Malveiro, 19, and her lover, nurse Mariana Fonseca, 23.

They are accused of murdering the victim to get cash in his bank account.

The Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha , which published part of the state prosecution charges against the lesbian couple, said they were accused of cutting Goncalves' fingers to access his bank account from a mobile phone using his fingerprints. They also stole Goncalves' inheritance of £ 60,000.

Malveiro is said to have told the Algarve judges they were inspired by the American television series Dexter .

Goncalves was strangled to death on March 18, but the woman allegedly threw her body overboard from a cliff in the Algarve town of Sagres four days later.

They used the fingerprints they had cut off his right hand to access his cellphone and transfer cash, and waited another 24 hours to dispose of the remains, prosecutors claimed.

The indictment says they spent three days between March 20 and 23 sending messages from Goncalves' Facebook account to fool colleagues and friends into believing the hotel worker was still alive.

They will be tried for a range of crimes including murder, mutilation, computer fraud and using stolen vehicles.
