Budi Gunadi Sadikin Said That 65 Percent Of Pertamina's Revenue Will Move To PLN. Why?

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Budi Gunadi Sadikin reminded PT Pertamina (Persero) that most of their income could go to PT PLN (Persero) due to the transition to the second energy system, namely from fossil energy to electricity.

Budi said that the transition to the second energy system occurred not because of technological discoveries but a change in consumer behavior that was starting to become aware of using more environmentally friendly energy. So the emergence of the use of electrical energy, such as electric-based vehicles which could be a new business potential for PLN.

"The second energy system transition is underway now. People will stay away from energy that comes from carbon, namely fuel and it is starting to see now that more young people prefer to use electric cars than fuel cars," he said, in a virtual discussion, Tuesday. , October 6.

Budi said that this condition would make Pertamina lose revenue. Moreover, about 60 percent to 65 percent of Pertamina's revenue comes from the business of selling fuel oil (BBM). Meanwhile, BBM is a fuel derived from fossil energy.

"What happens? What happens is about 60 percent to 65 percent of Pertamina's revenue will disappear and move to PLN because it turns into an electric car. Yes, it will not happen 100 percent immediately, maybe it will take 10-20 years, but it will happen," he explained.

According to Budi, like it or not Pertamina must be more innovative in finding new business gaps in the future. This gap is so that companies can still benefit from changes or transitions of energy systems.

Currently, said Budi, the gap that could be exploited by Pertamina is the new and renewable energy market. Because, its true use is still in the form of fossil energy, but it is added with other resources.

For example, biodiesel, which is a mixture of diesel or diesel with vegetable oil (FAME). That way, there are developments in innovation that can answer business needs in each sector.

"Learning from history, there is a nation because of their mastery of technology, they have grown to become big and dominate the world. There are nations that previously dominated the world backwards. This will have a profound impact on social, culture, economy and geopolitics," he said.
