MAKASSAR - The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) from the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) has officially involved 4 universities in Indonesia as a halal inspection agency (LPH). The determination was made after BPJPH issued LPH accreditation certificates to the four universities.
The four are Hasanuddin University Makassar, South Sulawesi; Brawijaya University Malang, East Java; LPH Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University, DKI Jakarta; and LPH Masjid Pembina Masjid (YPM) Salman ITB Bandung, West Java.
Head of the Center for Halal Cooperation and Standardization BPJPH Kemenag Hj Siti Aminah explained, a number of processes were passed by universities to fulfill the requirements to obtain an LPH accreditation certificate.
He hopes that universities can carry out their duties and responsibilities as LPH.
In addition to universities, LPH accreditation certificates were also given to four other institutions, namely LPH Center for Product Development and Industrial Standardization in Pekanbaru, LPH Together with Halal Madani Padang, LPH DSPM Certification Center at the Ministry of Trade Jakarta, and LPH for Halal Studies Thayyiban (KHT Muhammadiyah Jakarta).
On the same occasion, the Head of BPJPH Dr H Muh Aqil Irham gave his appreciation to LPH from universities, namely Unhas, UB, Hidayatullah, and ITB who have taken an important role in carrying out the mandate of Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Guaranteed Halal Products.
"One of the tasks of the Ministry of Religion is to guarantee halal products. The only institution authorized to issue halal certificates is BPJPH," said Muh Aqil, reported by Antara, Friday 15 April.
"Accreditation and visitation are the authority of the regulations given to BPJPH. We hope that obtaining this certificate can further optimize the role of LPHs as partners of the Ministry of Religion," he continued.
BPJPH has the duties and functions of halal registration, certification and verification, will continue to provide guidance and supervision of product halalness and establish halal standards for a product. In carrying out these duties and functions, BPJPH cooperates with relevant stakeholders.
Previously, BPJPH had carried out a verification process and field visitation to find out the validity of the Halal Inspection Center (PPH) documents at four universities recently.
The policy of involving these 4 universities in the LPH accreditation certificate was shortly after the inauguration of the latest halal logo by BPJPH. The new logo will take effect nationally on March 1, 2022, which will automatically replace the old logo made by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
