Ahmad Syaikhu Replaces Sohibul As PKS President

JAKARTA - Ahmad Syaikhu was elected President of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) with a term of office of 2020-2025. This determination was decided at the PKS Shura Council Deliberation session in Bandung.

Syaikhu replaced Sohibul Iman who served as PKS President for the 2015-2020 period. In his replacement, Sohibul stated that PKS has a tradition of a maximum tenure of one period.

"The tradition in PKS is that the position of President is only for one period. And that is a very good tradition to continue. So that regeneration in carrying out leadership duties continues," said Sohibul in his statement, Monday, October 5.

On the same occasion, Syaikhu admitted that he was ready to continue the leadership of the party bearing the rice and crescent moon for the next five years.

"Thank you to Kang Sohibul Iman for laying a very good foundation for PKS. This is the best provision for us in the next management. God willing, we will continue to struggle even better," said Syaikhu.

Syaikhu views that PKS's political stance in its leadership will remain on the line of the opposition overseeing the Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin's government until 2024.

"Even though PKS is outside the government, PKS is committed to being a party that is ready to step in to solve various problems that burden the people. PKS will be present as part of the solution not part of the problem," said Syaikhu.

Syaikhu also said that currently Indonesia is also experiencing a health crisis, an economic crisis and a crisis of national leadership.

"Therefore, we must have optimism and an unyielding spirit to pass this formidable test. We must all be ready to be pioneers in voicing and defending the interests of the people," he said.

Before serving as PKS President, Syaikhu served as Deputy Mayor of Bekasi and is currently a member of the DPR. Previously, Syaikhu had been a candidate for Deputy Governor of DKI, but was killed in the election process.

Apart from Syaikhu, another PKS figure who has served in the current PKS management is Habib Salim Segaf Aljufrie who was re-elected as Chairman of the PKS Shura Council (MS).

Then, Habib Aboe Bakar Alhabsyi as Secretary General replaces Mustafa Kamal. Then, Sohibul Iman currently serves as Deputy Chairman of the PKS Syuro Council, and Ahmad Heryawan and Suharna Surapranata as deputy chairmen of the Shura Council.

Furthermore, Untung Wahono as secretary of the Shura Council, Suswono as Chairman of the Central Advisory Council (MPP), Surahman Hidayat as Chairman of the Central Sharia Council (DSP), Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi as Secretary General of the Central Executive Board (DPP), and Mahfudz Abdurrahman as General Treasurer DPP.
