JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said that the persecution of social media activists Ade Armando was confirmed not by students but by wild elements.
"This act of violence is definitely not from the student element, it must be a wild element that did it," Mahfud said in a written statement, in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 13, quoted from Antara.
Mahfud immediately contacted the Chief of Metro Jaya Police, Inspector General Pol Fadil Imran to ask about the incident.
"I immediately contacted the Police Chief, I said that the police in Indonesia are capable of catching people who do heinous acts and are good at eliminating traces. People who mutilate people only have one hand left but they can be found, and they can be caught. Anyone can. We must be able to find the culprit," said Mahfud.
Moreover, he continued, the current government now has various instruments to find out who did what.
"I ask the Police Chief, so that the perpetrators are found and dealt with firmly, not indiscriminately from any group, any affiliation, strict action must be taken and it must be announced publicly that you are capable of doing so, and it has just been reported that several people suspected of being the perpetrators have been arrested," said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).
Previously, Metro Jaya Police arrested two suspected perpetrators of beating social media activist Ade Armando during a student demonstration in front of the DPR/MPR RI Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (11/4).
"Two suspects have just been arrested. The first is in the Jonggol area and the South Jakarta area. Both are still being asked for information," said the Director of General Crime Investigation of the Metro Jaya Police, Grand Commissioner Pol Tubagus Ade Hidayat.
The first suspect arrested in South Jakarta was identified as Muhammad Bagja and the second suspect arrested in Jonggol was named Ang Komar.
However, Tubagus has not been able to reveal the motive for beating Ade Armando because the investigation process is still ongoing.
