Police Arrest Group Of Thieves For COVID-19 Direct Cash Assistance Distribution

TRENGGALEK - The Trenggalek Police Team, East Java, arrested four men who were part of a theft gang with the mode of distributing cash assistance (BLT) to residents affected by COVID-19.

The case of the gang of thieves was carried out by the Trenggalek Police by presenting the four perpetrators of the theft along with evidence of the crime at the Trenggalek Police Headquarters, Monday, April 11.

"Our four perpetrators were arrested in the Magelang Regency, Central Java Province when they were about to return the rental car they used for their action," said Trenggalek Police Chief Assistant Commissioner of Police (AKBP) Dwiasi Wiyatputera as reported by Antara, Monday, April 11 evening.

From the results of the examination, continued Dwiasi, it is known that the perpetrators acted in three places in Trenggalek Regency.

“In a day there are three target locations. The victims were residents of Wonoanti Village, Karangsoko Village, and Pucang Anak Village," he said.

The results of the examination, it is known that these actors act in different roles but are coordinated with each other. Some are tasked with mapping the field and identifying potential victims to be targeted, as drivers, to posing as government employees to distribute COVID-19 aid.

Apparently one of the perpetrators previously worked as a "sales" for the LPG regulator so that he knew the data of the owner of the house.

"So some of them have been here before, to Trenggalek so that they know the data of the victims while working as 'sales' for the LPG regulator," said AKBP Dwiasi.

The Trenggalek Police Chief explained the modus operandi of the perpetrators by inviting the victims to take pictures, taking video pictures as if receiving help, and some of their friends in action.

The victim was made to appear unconscious, after the gang left and took their belongings, the victim became aware.

"We urge the public to be more aware of various modes of crime," he said.
