JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) continues to conduct examinations of a number of witnesses to gather information regarding the default scandal that occurred at PT Asuransi Jiwasraya (Persero). The name of the former Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Rini Soemarno, is also said to be being investigated.

Because Rini is the Minister of BUMN for the 2014-2019 period. Where in the initial investigation by the BPK and the Attorney General's Office in the Jiwasraya case this took place when Rini was in office, in the 2014-2018 period.

"Patience. Not yet there (summons Rini Soemarno). So I will examine the witnesses who lead to criminal acts first. So if that happens first," said Attorney General ST Burhanuddin during a press conference at the BPK office, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, January 8.

Even so, Burhanuddin ensured that his party still opened the possibility of summoning Rini in the Jiwasraya case. He said that Rini's summons depended on the results of the examination of the witnesses which are still being carried out by the AGO.

"Does it have any relevance, we don't know yet? If later from this circle (the Jiwasraya case), and if you enter that circle you will definitely go here. But until now there is no," he explained.

Burhanuddin added that currently his party has examined a number of witnesses involved in the Jiwasraya insurance default case. "We have examined 98 witnesses, and their actions against the law. But I cannot say what, who, what witnesses," he said.

As for now, his party is still working with BPK to trace the flow of funds to PPATK. He said, within two months, the results would come out soon.

"In inshaAllah, within two months we were able to find out who the perpetrators were. Who the perpetrators really did an act, to be honest this is a fairly large case," he said.

Investigations at 13 Locations

Jiwasraya does not only check 5,000 investment reports. The AGO will also conduct searches at 13 locations and objects in Jiwasraya's financial statements.

The searches and examinations of these objects were carried out quietly, in order to avoid public upheaval before the results could be confirmed.

"Finally, we have conducted several searches, about 13 objects that we have searched. Of course we do this silently and do not want to be too open because we are still waiting for the results of the examination from friends at BPK," he explained.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) Agung Firman Sampurna said there were 16 findings related to the Jiwasraya Insurance scandal. The 16 findings are related to Jiwasraya's business management, investment, income and operating costs during 2014 to 2015.

Some of BPK's findings include investments in shares of TRIO, SUGI, and LCGP in 2014 and 2015 which are not supported by an adequate study of share placement proposals. Then, Jiwasraya has the potential to face the risk of default on PT Hanson International (HI) 's Medium Term Note Purchase Investment Transactions.

"PT AJS also according to the BPK, is not optimal in supervising the mutual funds owned and there is an indirect placement of shares in a company that is underperforming," said Agung.

In this case, the BPK found indications of fraud or fraud in the saving plan product and investment placement made by PT Asuransi Jiwasraya. This case surfaced to the public after the red-plate company failed to pay its obligations to customers amounting to IDR 12.4 trillion in December 2019.
