Mayor Bobby's Message To Residents: Don't Buy Staples At Ramadan Cheap Markets

MEDAN - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution asked his residents not to buy up basic needs that are sold at 151 Ramadan cheap market points until April 27.

"Don't let the products available in this cheap market be bought up by people who are more economically capable," Bobby said in Medan, North Sumatra, as reported by Antara, Sunday, April 10.

The cheap market held by the Medan City Government during the holy month of Ramadan this year, he continued, was sold to Medan residents at an affordable price because it had been subsidized.

There are eight commodities out of a total of 20 brands of staples in this Ramadhan cheap market with lower prices than on the market, including IR-64 rice at Rp. 8,300/kg. Then packaged cooking oil Rp21,750/liter, granulated sugar Rp11,500/kg, wheat flour Rp8,600/kg, eggs Rp1,000/grain, and peeled peanuts Rp26,300/kg. maintain the quality of goods and provide the best service, as well as selective sub-district and village heads to residents who are entitled to these staples.

"Abuse of authority in this Ramadan cheap market will certainly be subject to severe sanctions," said Bobby.

Head of the Medan City Trade Office, Damikrot, said that since the cheap market opened at the beginning of last Ramadan, residents have continued to come to shop.

This week, there are four basic commodities that are most sought after in this cheap market every day, namely rice, cooking oil, eggs, and sugar.

"As for syrup, peanuts, butter, and flour, the demand is small. Usually the need increases two weeks before Idul Fitri," he said.
