JAKARTA - Iran said on Saturday (9/4) it had imposed sanctions on 15 more U.S. officials, as months of talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal have stalled.

Among the fifteen officials were former Army Chief of Staff George Casey and former attorney for President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani.

Nearly all of the officials on the sanctions list served under the Trump administration, which has imposed sanctions on a number of Iranian officials, politicians and companies.

Not only that, the Trump administration also withdrew the US from the nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers.

In a statement quoted by the mass media, Iran's foreign ministry accused the US officials of supporting "terrorist groups and terrorism against Iran and Israel's repressive actions against the Palestinian people".

Indirect talks between Iran and the US in Vienna, Austria, which have been going on for eleven months, have stalled.

Both sides said political decisions should be taken by Tehran and Washington to resolve remaining issues.

In January, Iran also imposed sanctions on 51 Americans, mostly from the country's military, over the 2020 assassination of General Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike in Iraq.

Last year, Tehran imposed sanctions on Donald Trump and several top US officials.
