Residents Sue Anies' Position As DKI Governor Extended, PKB Not Necessary: Anies Is Already Confidence To Become A 2024 Presidential Candidate

JAKARTA - Deputy Secretary General (Wasekjen) of DPP PKB Luqman Hakim assessed that DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan had high confidence to run in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

Luqman conveyed that it was related to two Jakarta residents who sued the regional head's term of office, which expires in 2022 and 2023, to be extended. Both automatically want the term of office of the current governor of DKI to be extended until 2024. Anies is known to have expired as governor on October 16, 2022.

"In my opinion, Anies Baswedan is very confident to fight as a presidential candidate in the election on February 14, 2024," said Luqman on his Twitter account, @LuqmanBeeNKRI, Friday, April 8

He said Anies had given up his ambition to lead Jakarta in two terms. Anies' current focus is on the presidential election which will be held at the same time as the legislative election in 2024. So the lawsuits of the two Jakarta residents do not mean anything.

"Therefore, Anies no longer has any motive to stay as governor," said the Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR.

As is known, two Jakarta residents have filed a lawsuit against the Constitutional Court regarding Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 1 of 2015 concerning the stipulation of government regulations to replace Law Number 1 of 2014 concerning the election of governors, regents and mayors into the Pilkada Law.

Based on a copy quoted from the MK website, the two Jakarta residents are A Komarudin, a private employee who lives in Ancol, North Jakarta, and Eny Rochayati, a housewife who lives in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

The petitioners examined the norms of Article 201 paragraph (3), paragraph (9), Elucidation of Article 201 paragraph (9), Article 201 paragraph (10) and paragraph (11) of the Pilkada Law.

According to the petitioners, the Pilkada Law causes the applicants to be led by a regional head who is not elected based on a democratic election. Because, in 2022, the term of office of the leader of DKI Jakarta will expire. For approximately two years, applicants 1 and 2 will be led by a regional head who is not elected by the people.

In addition, the applicant also does not agree with the Elucidation of Article 201 paragraph (9) of the Regional Election Law, especially on the phrase that his term of office (officer) is 1 year and can be extended for the next 1 year with the same/different person.
