AMBON - The Ambon City Government has banned officials and state civil apparatus within the local municipal government from holding and attending iftar and sahur together during Ramadan, as well as the Eid al-Fitr 1443 Hijri "open house" because the situation is still in the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Ambon City Government ASN officials and staff, I ask not to hold and attend the iftar or sahur together, as well as the Eid al-Fitr open house," said Ambon Mayor Richard Louhenapessy in Ambon, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, April 6.

He said the policy was contained in a circular letter (SE) of the Mayor of Ambon regarding the implementation of worship during Ramadan and Eid 1443 Hijri which followed up on the SE Minister of Religion Number 8 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for the Implementation of Worship in the Months of Ramadan and Eid 1443 Hijri.

Based on the circular, he said, the prohibition on holding Eid open houses, iftar and sahur together applies to officials and civil servants, while the public is still allowed to observe the implementation of health protocols. not against the rules.

"Later we will hold a gathering in another form," he said.

The month of Ramadan, he said, is the time when Muslims perform fasting, therefore people of other religions are advised not to eat, drink and smoke, during the day in public places.

He said this effort is a tangible manifestation of tolerance, because Ambon has been recognized as a city with the best tolerance index in Indonesia.

"Let's respect our Muslim brothers and sisters who carry out fasting, as a real form of tolerance, because Ambon has been recognized as a city with the best tolerance index in Indonesia, which we only received some time ago," said Richard.
