Komnas HAM Guards Langkat Regent's Cage Case, Asks North Sumatra Police To Process 8 Defendants

SUMUT - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) is overseeing the legal process for eight suspects in the human cage case belonging to the inactive Regent of Langkat, the publication of the Wind War Plan.

Komnas HAM asked the Regional Police (Polda) of North Sumatra (North Sumatra) to process the defendants in accordance with applicable regulations. The reason is that until now all the suspects have not been detained, on the grounds of legal technical considerations that are still being carried out by the North Sumatra Police.

"Please make sure there are no steps that could cause public distrust," said Komnas HAM chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik when contacted in Jakarta, Monday, April 4.

As an institution that focuses on and pays attention to the case, Ahmad has several times received protests from various groups regarding the progress of the case. "My network was shocked, protested, and complained, why is it like this," he added, as reported by Antara.

This shows that there is public distrust of the performance of the police, both at the investigation and prosecution stages, and at the next stage at the prosecutor's office. According to him, it is important that the officers guard the case because it is very serious.

Komnas HAM is currently waiting for steps to be taken by the North Sumatran Police, especially regarding the detention of eight suspects in the human cage case in Langkat.

Not only Komnas HAM, the Advocacy Team for Human Rights Enforcement (TAP-HAM), as the victim's attorney, also asked the Criminal Investigation Police to supervise the North Sumatran Police in investigating the human cage case in Langkat.

This monitoring needs to be carried out because the legal process carried out by the North Sumatra Police is considered slow, even though the case of human cages at the house of the inactive Langkat Regent, the issuance of the Wind War Plan has become a national spotlight.
