JAKARTA - The South Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Sumsel) sent logistical assistance to fire victims in the Fisherman's Village, Sungsang 1 Village, Banyuasin Regency.

South Sumatra BPBD Head of Emergency Handling, Ansori in Palembang, said Sunday that at least 75 food packages, 40 family hygiene kits, 35 family kits from BPBD and the South Sumatra Provincial Social Service were sent on Sunday afternoon.

The food aid packages include 60 units of ready-to-eat food, 54 units of children's food, wheat, sugar, rice and family supplies, in the form of mattresses, children's school supplies and medicines.

"The aid arrived this afternoon, it has been distributed to the victims by setting up an emergency service post at the location and we are also alerting medical personnel to treat victims or residents affected by the fire incident there," he said as quoted by Antara.

BPBD and Banyuasin II Sub-district noted that 26 houses were destroyed in a large fire that occurred on Saturday (2/4) night or coincided with local residents during the first Tarawih prayer in Ramadan this year.

The fire caused 44 heads of families or about 135 people to lose their homes and most of their valuable objects.

The local police are still investigating further the cause of the fire, which recorded a loss of around IDR 3.5 billion.

The fire victims have now been evacuated to the emergency post prepared by the Banyuasin Regency Government and some have gone to the houses of their closest relatives.
