Riau Provincial Government Holds Cheap Market, Cooking Oil, Rice And Sugar Are Sold Under HET

RIAU - The Riau Provincial Government held a low-cost market in order to maintain price stability for basic necessities to welcome this year's Ramadan.

"Hopefully this cheap market can help people provide their basic needs in the current conditions, especially in carrying out fasting," said Governor Syamsuar after officially opening the cheap market in Tenayan Raya, Pekanbaru, quoted from Antara, Sunday, April 3.

In addition to the bazaar, he said, the Riau Provincial Government, related agencies, including the Riau Police formed a food task force tasked with supervising the availability of food in the region as well as monitoring price increases and shortages of goods.

The Food Task Force was formed to ensure the availability of sufficient food items, so that people can carry out their fasting worship solemnly and smoothly.

Head of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Riau Province Taufiq Oesman Hamid said the cheap market which took place on Sunday sold rice, granulated sugar, cooking oil, wheat flour and eggs. One ton of rice is available at a price of Rp. 103,000 per 10 kg package.

Then, one ton of granulated sugar is also available at a selling price of Rp. 12,500 or below the highest retail price (HET) of Rp. 13,500 per kg.

Furthermore, simple packaged cooking oil is available in 120 boxes. One box contains 12 one liter packs or is available with a total of 1,440 packs.

"Cooking oil is priced at IDR 23,000 in the market, we sell IDR 19,500 per liter, a maximum of two liters per person can be bought, this is already available," he said.

The Head of Industry and Trade and Industry for SMEs Riau continued, for eggs there are 300 boards. The market price is Rp. 45,000, while in the cheap market it is sold for Rp. 35,000.

"There are 30 boxes of wheat flour, the market price is Rp. 12,000, we sell the distributor's price to Rp. 10,000," he said.

One of the residents of Pekanbaru, Azra admitted that he was helped by the cheap market.

"Earlier, we bought chicken eggs, sugar, flour, and oil. For the price, it's pretty good and we feel helped," he said.
