JAKARTA - The Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI) welcomed the suggestion by the Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, to hold mediation to discuss the polemic of the alleged ethical violation of Dr. Terawan Agus Putranto.

"Regarding the Minister of Health's directive for mediation, of course IDI welcomes this. But indeed mediation is the desire of both parties," said PB IDI Spokesperson Beni Satria, quoted by Antara, Friday, April 1.

According to Beni, the mediation process can run optimally when the request comes from both parties.

Beni, who is also the Head of IDI's Defense Law and Member Development (BHP2A) Division, said that his party still adheres to the principles of Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) in this matter.

"We focus on EBM on the space that we have provided. But this space is given by the Minister of Health. Of course we welcome this, if the person concerned (Terawan) accepts this good thing," he said.

Beni said that until now PB IDI had not received an official notification of the mediation activity. "What we don't know is when this plan will take place. Even if there is an official letter, until today there is no official letter," he said.

According to Beni, the mediation offered by the Minister of Health is expected to be able to unravel the noise and be understood by the public, especially the medical profession.

Internally, PB IDI, said Beni, his party has tried to mediate with the reported parties, starting from letters, short WhatsApp messages, telephone connections. "It is possible to be given more space, but this did not get a good (response)," he said.

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin will facilitate IDI mediation with former Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto regarding Terawan's dismissal from IDI membership.

Budi said the Ministry of Health had summoned the Indonesian Medical Council (KKI) and IDI. "So I called everyone, I have met with KKI with IDI, I have met with the Ministry of Health," he said at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (31/3).
