YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta Special Region Civil Service Police Unit (DIY) will confiscate electric scooters and other similar vehicles used across Jalan Margo Utomo, Jalan Malioboro, and Jalan Margo Mulya, Yogyakarta.

The head of the DIY Satpol PP, Noviar Rahmad, said the confiscation of the electric scooter followed up on the Circular (SE) of the Governor of DIY Number 551/4671 concerning the Prohibition of Operation of Certain Vehicles Using Electric Motor Drives on Jalan Margo Utomo, Jalan Malioboro, and Jalan Margo Mulya.

"Our action is to carry out non-judicial operations, which means taking action, confiscate goods or vehicles that are still in operation and we take them to the Satpol PP (office)," he said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 31.

Individual owners or scooter rental businesses are welcome to take back the confiscated goods. However, after that, they were asked to stop operating on the three roads which are the axes of the DIY philosophy.

"We hope all entrepreneurs (leasing electric vehicles) to move their business from the area," he said.

According to him, prosecution against violators of the SE Governor of DIY, will only be effective starting April 4, 2022 and currently the DIY Satpol PP is still intensifying the socialization of the SE on the use of electric vehicles in the three areas.

"Starting Monday, together with related agencies, we will carry out surveillance operations and immediately take action against violations of this Circular," he said.

Previously, the Governor of DIY, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, issued a Circular (SE) of the Governor of DIY Number 551/4671 concerning the Prohibition of Operation of Certain Vehicles Using Electric Motors in Margo Utomo, Jalan Malioboro, and Jalan Margo Mulya, which was issued in Yogyakarta, Thursday.

The SE states that certain vehicles using electric motors include electric scooters, hoverboards, electric unicycles, and electric scooters.
