JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Satpol PP will take firm action against intellectual actors suspected of driving seasonal beggars ahead of the month of Ramadan until this year's Eid al-Fitr.

"Are there intellectual actors? Are there groups using tie-ups by mobilizing people to beg for their personal interests? We will not allow it, we will take strict action," said Head of DKI Satpol PP Arifin after opening a meeting on the planned revision of the Regional Regulation on Peace and Public Order in Jakarta , Tuesday 29 March.

Satpol PP will expand the scope of supervision of beggars and homeless people or people with social welfare problems (PMKS).

"We are increasing their reach, the locations they are targeting. We are focusing on patrols, focusing on taking action against beggars," he said.

Surveillance patrols are usually carried out in a number of streets or crowd centers. And later the supervision will be expanded to also target shopping centers, trade centers, and places of worship.

He explained that the supervision would be carried out by Satpol PP officers from the village, sub-district, city and province.

"If then it happens as if the beggar in quotation marks becomes a profession, the choice of this job is not justified even though physically, the ability can do business outside of begging," he said.

Arifin hopes that the community will participate in changing the phenomenon every time before religious holidays, the PMKS always appears.

He hopes that alms can be done in a better way, including through an official zakat agency.

"We want to change the 'mindset' (mindset) or picture that every month before the fasting month there are many homeless people, beggars, whether they deliberately take advantage of the month of Ramadan, the month of blessing, the month is recommended to give more alms, for example because the reward is multiplied. We need to educate this person," he said. .
