Election Of Village Heads Already Using E-Voting, Proven To Have Many Benefits

JAKARTA - The Director-General of Village Administration (Pemdes) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Yusharto Huntoyungo attended the e-voting simulation of the Village Head Election (Pilkakam) held by the Central Lampung Regency Government, last week.

In a written statement quoted from the ministry's official website, Monday, March 28, Yusharto said the use of e-voting was a breakthrough that was beneficial for the government. The reason is that the Pilkakam with this system utilizes electronic devices, both in processing digital information to make ballots, cast ballots, count votes, and send vote results.

In addition, this system also displays the results of the vote and can show the results of the vote count.

The simulation took place at the Wates Village Hall, Central Lampung.

The electoral system was initiated in 2012 and implemented in 2013 until now. Currently, the e-voting system has been implemented in 11 provinces, 17 districts, and 981 Village Head Elections (Pilkades) throughout Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Central Lampung, Musa Ahmad, who was also present, appreciated the breakthrough made through the Central Lampung Community and Village Empowerment Service (PMK).

In line with Yusharto, Musa assessed that this breakthrough had a number of advantages for the government. For example, the election process is more effective and efficient, vote counting is faster, prevents duplicate voter data from appearing, avoids the potential for damaged ballots, and saves costs in the long run.

Musa revealed, this e-voting system will later be applied to 5 Pilkakam events. If the implementation is successful, it is hoped that this system can be applied to all Pilkakam implementations in Central Lampung.
