The Directorate General Of PAS Denies Allegations Of Involvement Of Prison Officers Behind Cai Changpan's Escape

JAKARTA - Various allegations have emerged behind the escape of a drug convict, Cai Changpan from the Tangerang Class I Prison. One of them is the question of the possible involvement of prison officers who helped his escape.

The Head of Public Relations and Protocol of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjen PAS) Rika Aprianti denied this allegation. The reason is, until now there is no evidence or guidance that can substantiate the alleged involvement of prison officers.

"Currently there is no evidence that directs the involvement of officers," Rika told VOI, Sunday, September 27.

Meanwhile, regarding the development of the hunt for Cai Changpan, Rika said, the team from the Directorate General of PAS and the Police had yet to find information on his whereabouts. Currently, the search process is still being carried out.

"Not yet (development), still in the search process," he briefly.

Previously, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Adies Kadir, questioned a number of irregularities regarding the process of Cai Changpan's escape when he visited the Tangerang Class I Prison, on Wednesday, September 23.

Adies questioned the absence of working tools used to dig around the site. Not found also excavated soil. Yet if you look at the length and size of the hole - the place where Cai Changpan escaped - Adies estimates that a large vehicle is needed to dispose of the land.

"There is a possibility that it will also be excavated from outside, but if we count it from outside, it may take two dump trucks," said Adies, Wednesday, September 23.

Adies even suspected whether this culvert had been around for a long time. Because if it's just excavated, it's almost impossible.

Adies assessed that it is highly unlikely that one person with a tool length less than 20 cm can dig thousands of cubic meters of soil. And it is not even known where the excavated soil was placed.

"Why can't people around you hear, because this is because the distance from the cell room to the outside of the prison is quite far, almost 30 meters," he said.

"The question is, is there really a culvert inside, this must be seen and really entered," he continued.

Meanwhile, Chai Chang Pan alias Antoni managed to escape from the Tangerang Class I Prison on Monday, September 14. He escaped by making a hole in the wall and entering the sewer. Where in the cell is found a screwdriver.

Quoted from the Supreme Court (MA) directory, Cai Chang Pan alias Antoni was sentenced to death by the Tangerang District Court on July 19, 2017 for a drug case. This death row inmate then submitted an appeal to the Banten High Court on September 28, 2017, but was rejected.

Cai Chang Pan was found guilty of a case of methamphetamine-type drugs with 1,135 plastic packs of evidence. The total weight of methamphetamine is stated in the court decision to reach 135 kilograms.
