Speaking Of Energy Transition, Jokowi: If One Country Is Ready, They Can Go While Helping Other Countries

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that each country certainly has different challenges in carrying out energy transformation. Thus, countries with heavy burdens must be assisted in its implementation.

This was conveyed when he was a keynote speaker at the S20 High-Level Policy Webinar on Just Energy Transition on Thursday, March 17.

"Countries with heavy burdens must be assisted and provided with facilities. Countries that are ready can go first while helping other countries that cannot afford it," Jokowi said on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube show.

"We must build more collaborations to facilitate access to affordable energy services, create technological innovations, and funding breakthroughs. Formulate a consistent strategy that is sustainable," he added.

Jokowi understands very well that there are a number of big challenges that will be faced in efforts to transition energy, such as access to clean energy, funding, to research and technology support.

But, he believes, these challenges will certainly open up a number of opportunities to new job opportunities. Thus, Jokowi encourages the G20 to bridge and encourage developing and developed countries that are members of its membership to make an energy transition.

"Increasing the need for expertise in technological innovation and digitalization, opening up new economic opportunities, a green economy to accelerate global recovery," said Jokowi.

"Therefore, the G20 is expected to bridge and encourage developing and advanced countries in the G20 membership to accelerate the energy transition process, strengthen a just and sustainable global energy system in a global agreement," he concluded.
