Judges Sentence Lightly For 5 Police Who Spoofed Evidence Of Hundreds Of Millions During Drug Raids, Prosecutor Appeals

MEDAN - The Medan District Court (PN) panel of judges handed down light sentences against 5 members of the Medan Polrestabes Satnarkoba personnel. In fact, one defendant was acquitted.

The five police officers were previously charged with stealing evidence of IDR 650 million during a raid on the house of a suspected drug dealer. The judge's verdict was much lighter than the prosecutor's demands.

There was also a defendant who was acquitted, namely Toto Hartono. Previously, Toto was sentenced to 10 years in prison. While the other 4, Ricardo Siahaan, was sentenced to 8 months and 22 days in prison with a demand of 8 years in prison.

Then Matredy Naibaho was sentenced to 8 months and 22 days in prison with a sentence of 10 years in prison. Meanwhile, the defendants Marjuki Ritonga and Dudi Hefni were sentenced to 8 months and 21 days in prison respectively. Previously, both defendants were sentenced to 3 years in prison.

Apart from the defendant Ricardo, the verdict was read out by a panel of judges chaired by Jarihat Simarmata. Meanwhile, Uli Marbun's decision was read by Ricardo. The verdicts of the five defendants were read out at Cakra IX of the Medan District Court, Tuesday, March 15.

Apart from Toto Hartono, the four defendants were found guilty of theft by weight.

"This is in accordance with Article 363 paragraph 1 to 4 of the Criminal Code for the subsidiary indictment of the Public Prosecutor," said judge Uli Marbun when reading Ricardo's decision.

On this decision, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) Rahmi Shafrina immediately declared an appeal.

"The Public Prosecutor will file an appeal. Previously, we were charged with the theft with violence and drugs. But the panel of judges had a different opinion," said Public Prosecutor Rahmi after the trial.

Quoted based on the prosecutor's indictment, this case began when the five defendants intended to raid a suspected drug dealer named Jusuf alias Jus at his home, on Menteng VII Street, Gang Duku, Southeast Medan Village, Medan Denai District, Medan City.

However, during a search, the five defendants did not find any drugs. They found money worth Rp. 1.5 billion in the bag. The money was then used as evidence and taken to the Medan Police Headquarters.

In this case, the five defendants embezzled the money. Because the initial evidence in the investigation against Jusuf was not found, the Medan Police Narcotics Unit stopped the legal process.

Then the Medan Police Narcotics Unit investigation returned money to Imayanti, Jus' wife, only Rp. 850 million.

However, the remaining Rp. 650 million was divided up. Feeling aggrieved, Imayanti accompanied by her legal representative made a report to the Propam Division of the National Police Headquarters.

From the investigation, Propam made arrests of the five police officers who had been fired. As a result, this case itself dragged the names of a number of Medan Polrestabes officers.

Meanwhile, the Medan Police Chief, Kombes Riko Sunarko, was removed from his position. But the police said Riko's dismissal had nothing to do with the case.
