Bobby Nasution Enters The Trench Tunnel In Medan To Check The Cause Of The Flood

MEDAN - In the past, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was excited when he entered the sewers in the HI roundabout area, Jakarta, at the end of 2012, during the era he was governor of DKI Jakarta.

Now, the Mayor of Medan, Bobby Nasution, has taken similar action. In overcoming the Medan flood problem, Bobby Nasution did not play around. To identify what caused the flooding, President Joko Widodo's son-in-law entered the Medan Urban Development Project (MUDP) ditch on Menteng Raya Street, Binjai Village, Medan Denai District, precisely under the Denai River bridge, Sunday, March 13.

Using a flashlight, the number one person in the Medan City Government walked down the drainage channel in the form of a dark, musty and smelly tunnel.

The steps were taken by Bobby Nasution not only surprised several OPD leaders in the Medan City Government but also residents who witnessed the joint drainage cleaning involving the Medan City Public Works (PU) Department and Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling Officers (P3SU) from 4 sub-districts namely Medan Denai, Medan Kota, Medan Area, and Medan Amplas.

Several officers from the PU and P3SU offices had to go in and out of the MUDP trench from time to time. Because, they feel stuffy, hot, and tight when they are in it. Officers salute Bobby Nasution for holding back in the MUDP trench accompanied by the Head of Public Works Department of Medan City, Typhoon OP Ginting.

"We salute the Mayor, he wants to enter the MUDP trench. This is the first time a mayor has entered it. Of course, this is a motivation and enthusiasm for us to work," said an official from the Public Works Service who had just come out of the MUDP trench, quoted by the Medan City Government Public Relations statement, Monday, March 14.

Before entering the MUDP trench, Bobby Nasution first checked the drainage cleaning carried out around the Binjai Village Head Office.

Bobby asked for the covers of several manholes on the side of the road to be opened to see if the water was flowing smoothly or not. After that, he was carried by the Head of Public Works Department, Bobby Nasution to monitor the drainage cleaning around the Denai River bridge.

After talking with the Head of Public Works and the Head of the Public Works Service Unit, Bobby then descended the riverbank and then entered the MUDP trench tunnel.

There were about 20 minutes of Kahiyang Ayu's husband in it. Then it was continued again by checking the drainage cleaning around the Binjai Village Office.

Bobby saw that the water flow was still not smooth, indicating that there was still a blockage in the drainage. After tracing it turned out to be true, there was a blockage in the drainage near the bridge. To overcome this, spraying is carried out using one unit of a fire engine to encourage and clean garbage and sediment in the drainage.

"I asked for this to be resolved. I have reviewed several times, residents have asked that the flood problem in this area be resolved immediately. After identification, we have found the root cause of the flood. This must be resolved as soon as possible, sorry for the community," said Bobby Nasution.

Meanwhile, according to the Head of Public Works Office of Medan City, Topan OP Ginting, the cleaning of the MUDP trench was carried out as a follow-up to the flood that occurred in the Medan Denai area a few days ago, especially in the Binjai Village, including the Police Dormitory area, Gg Mestika, Gg Nangka, and several other areas.

After identification, including that carried out with the Mayor, of the drainage canal that stretches on Jalan Menteng Raya, especially the MUDP ditch which empties into the Denai River (Percut River), a large amount of sediment was found in channels number one and three.

"We found 80 percent of the sediment mixed with soil and garbage," said Topan.

There are also efforts being made, explained Topan, to multiply the doors and widen the dimensions of the outlet doors by using a breaker and a jackhammer. Then spray the sedimentation by using a fire engine. This is because mobilizing materials by deploying officers is very difficult because oxygen is limited in the MUDP trench.
