JAKARTA - The United States will not go to war with Russia in Ukraine, but will defend NATO territory (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), if necessary, President Joe Biden said in a speech about Ukraine at the White House on Friday.
"We will not go to war against Russia in Ukraine," he said, quoted by TASS March 12.
"Direct confrontation between NATO and Russia is World War III, something we must prevent," continued the US President from the Democratic Party.
"We will continue to stand together with our allies in Europe and send an unmistakable message: we will defend every inch of NATO territory with the full strength of a united and galvanizing NATO," President Biden said.
President Biden declined to say whether Washington has evidence to corroborate claims by some Western countries that there is a risk Russia may use chemical weapons in Ukraine.
"I'm not going to talk about intelligence, but Russia will pay a heavy price for using chemical weapons," President Biden said.
It is known, President Vladimir Putin gave his military green light to carry out special military operations in Ukraine on February 24, with the aim of demilitarization and denazification, without the intention of occupying territory and not targeting civilians.

The United States, European Union, and other allies condemned this move, which was followed by the imposition of sanctions against Moscow. In response, Russia also did the same thing even though President Putin said Russia would continue to fulfill its commitment to send oil and gas supplies to Europe.
